Alabama Homeschoolers Welcome! www.alabamahomeschooling.net and Everest Academy

Homeschooling in Alabama, Fieldtrips, Coverschools, Activities, recipes and much more!

You're Invited to Attend!!!

Dec 1 thru 5, 2008 - Disney World Everest Academy will be going to Disney World in Orlando again this year. We went last year and had a blast. The trip will include a 5-day hopper pass to all four parks plus four visits to either Typhoon Lagoon and/or Disney Quest. We visited Disney Quest last year and had an absolute blast. These tickets will also include one Y.E.S. program for the students. These are absolutely wonderful programs, and my kids are still talking about the one they attended last year. The rest of the time is your's to spend as a family. For more information, please look here: Disney Trip 2008. This trip is open to all homeschoolers regardless of cover school, so please spread the word. R.S.V.P. to everestacademy1@gmail.com

April 25 thru 29, 2009 - Everest Academy 5 Day Cruise!!! Yes, 2009! That gives you plenty of time to plan for saving money, making plans, and getting a passport. This is going to be an awesome trip. I would love to see our group book the whole cruise! This is a phenomenal time to go as the cruise will not be that crowded, and the weather is beautiful! Everest Academy is going on an awesome five day Western Caribbean Cruise April 25 - 29, 2009 aboard the Carnival Fun Ship "Holiday". We will have two port stops; one in Yucatan, Mexico and the other in Cozumel, Mexico. On board, we will have available to our group swimming, shows, more food than you could ever eat, Camp Carnival, art shows, etc... You can stay busy or just laze around. The choice is yours. I have arranged for us to be seated together for meals; however, this is optional depending on your family plans. For full details, please look here: Cruise

....but what about socialization????

Yes, what are those public schoolers going to do for socialization? I mean they sit in one spot for the better part of the day. They can't talk to each other, laugh, help each other, or even get up and stretch their cramped little legs. Did you know that schoolers are expected to go to the bathroom on cue? I can't go to the bathroom on cue, can you? I have even heard that schoolers pass each other in the halls and knock books out of each others hands, call each other names, hit each other, and s… Continue

Friendship

What is friendship? Well the dictionary states friendship is someone you have a strong like of and trust in. There are many people I like, some I trust, maybe sometimes just a little too much. I really think sometimes I give my trust to easily, and I really hate when that comes back to hurt me, but I absolutely detest when it comes back to hurt my kids. I always tell my kids choose their friends wisely because a man is known by the company he keeps. Well someone I thought was a friend came to my… Continue

Socialization and homeschool

Well, I've been asked about socialization and homeschooling on more than one occassion. My brother for one is convinced that by homeschooling I'm socially retarding my kids. Then he turns around and talks about how well they interact with adults. Well which is it. Personally, I think my kids are much more socialable than his child. Now don't get me wrong, I love my niece very much, but she can be peculiar sometimes with her social skills, as in you may ask her something and she will just look at… Continue

Blog Challenge: But, what about socialization?

When we first started homeschooling we needed to step back from socializing so much. The kids felt they'd been over scheduled. I agreed. Eventually, they found things they wanted to do. Now we are so busy once again. The thing is they are following their passions this time. I hate to curtail that. Of course I'm only one person, driving for three (or more), so there is only so much I can get them to. KWIM?
