Please vote in our new polls! Teen / Parent book club next BOTM and November Meeting.

I put a few holiday books in the polls this time. I also made a sign for people who have trouble finding the group. Remember you can always let me know you are planning to come and I'll give you my cell phone number to facilitate finding one another!

Please go here and vote in our three polls, we only have until the 15th to vote!

Thanks for another great meeting everyone!

I want to thank everyone who came out to our Halloween Teen / Parent Book Club October meeting at the George Ward Park Tennis Center! The pizza, costumes and conversation were great. Some of us even got out on the courts and some played chess or checkers! The books this month, as they are most months, were really good! I hope to see you all next month! Thanks again for making it a great meeting and group!

Be watching for new polls to decide our December BOTMs and our November meeting time, date… Continue

Huntsville Homeschool Prom

To everyone with a teenager! We are working hard on plans for Huntsville's first homeschool high school prom but need more parents and teens involved in the planning and preparation to make this a success. Our intention is for this to become an annual tradition for our Huntsville-Madison area homeschooled teens that they can look forward to each year.

We've had two planning meetings to date with the next one on Wednesday, Nov. 11 from 7 - 9:00 pm at my house in SE Huntsville. Please plan to att… Continue

Atlanta field trips

We had a great time in Atlanta and mostly because we had a great group of parents and kids. I hope all the same folks come to the next Atlanta field trip! I posted all the photos my girls and I took on the Shutterfly site. Actually, I believe I only took the three or so group pics... Katie and Grace had fun wi… Continue

I want you all to know that I have been child free now since Friday after Park Day, and I am so BORED!!! What do people do without children? How can people say, "I can't wait 'till school starts back?" What do they do all day long while their kids are at school? I am already suffering with the knowledge that some day (keep in mind that Dae is only 8) both of my kids will have a home of their own, and I will be stuck here all alone... Yuck!!!! On an up note, my husband and I have REALLY partied i… Continue

Have you ever noticed that learning comes at the oddest times and when least expected? Today, while I was sitting quietly reading a book in the living room, Dae decided that it was time for her "babies" (the Webkinz) to have "lessons". She drags out a science workbook, a dry erase clock pad, a health book, and a math game and proceeds to have lessons for an hour. Tonight Dalton, Dae, and I sat for three hours talking about different scenic spots in the United States. We got out a National Geogra… Continue

Well, change of plans! Good thing I make it a practice to be flexible. Dalton is coming home tomorrow. The Flippens had a car accident. Don't worry, no one was hurt except for the van... They will be stuck in Washington (State) for at least the next two weeks. Dalton was originally only supposed to stay 4 weeks, which he has, but was going to stay an extra period of time to allow them the time to make it to the Grand Canyon. Well, that is not going to happen in that time period now, so we decide… Continue

Webkinz is the hot topic of the week at our house this week. Dae got her first Webkinz; a rabbit she named Helena. She has been all over that website and then drug out a ton of books so that she could "do school" with Helena. She has been on the phone with a couple of her friends playing all of the games and setting up "friends" on the website. It is so much fun for her. I know several of you have told me in the past that your kids have these, so let me know if they want to be on her "friends" l… Continue

The American Girl Club met at the Birmingham Museum of Art on Tuesday and had a blast. We had a docent-led tour of the Town of the Creek Nation exhibit, the Native American exhibit, and the American exhibit. I had seen all of it with the exception of the Native American section, and it was exceptional. I did not even know that they had a Native American section. You should REALLY check it out if you have not seen it. The girls got to play "Kaya" in a model long house, attend a council meeting, t… Continue

Calling All Homeschoolers!!!

New & Improved!!!
Everest Academy
Outdoor Adventure Club

sponsored by

Fresh Air Family now has coordinators in North Alabama, Central Alabama, and South Alabama which will enable Everest Academy to have North Alabama, Central Alabama, and South Alabama Clubs.

  • Who:  All homeschoolers welcome!

  • What:  Awesome outdoor group that goes on monthly outdoor adventures including a comprehensive natural science program which will be guided by expert naturalists and college professors.  You will enjoy unique places in Alabama, some of which are not open to the public.  These outdoor adventures would cost you upwards of $1,200 per year if you were to plan these on your own.

  • Where: Different outdoor locations throughout the state of Alabama.

  • Fee: $25.00 per family for the WHOLE year - even if you are only able to attend one event, it would be well worth it to join. This fee will cover most of the events. Canoeing or camping trip may require an additional fee.

  • When:  Most events will be held on Thursdays.
